Watermelon Seeds for Snow White

An early variety (80 to 105 days), the watermelon fruits are white, round, smooth, medium-sized, and weigh 11 to 13 lbs. The pulp has a bright red color with a delicate structure, and it is juicy and sweet.

To plant the seeds, try the paper towel technique. Tear a paper towel in half, moisten one half, and place four or five seeds on it. Fold the other half over the seeds, and place the paper inside a clear, sandwich-size zip-close bag. Set the bag in a room-temperature area, out of direct sunlight. The bag acts as a miniature greenhouse, retaining heat and moisture, and you should observe the seeds sprouting in about five to seven days.

Use a hoe to make mounds that are approximately 2 feet across the top and 8 to 12 inches high. The loose soil helps the roots become established and allows excess water to drain. Level the top of each mound, and use your finger to poke four equally-spaced holes, about 1 inch deep. Deposit one seed in each hole and lightly rake the soil to cover the seeds. Pack the soil lightly to keep the seeds from drying out too quickly when they are watered. Water the seeds, and the plants should emerge within the first two weeks of planting.
